Sonara artisan jewellery is made by hand, using traditional techniques and responsible design principals. Each piece will have unique artist marks making it perfectly imperfect, bringing a personal connection while reflecting the hands of the artist that created it. How it’s made matters. Sonara jewellery celebrates and supports humankind, this is my ethos and the heart Sonara.
I am Sandy Louise Clifford, jewellery artist and founder of Sonara Australia. I was born in NY but my childhood was a kaleidoscope of cultures as we travelled the world due to my fathers work. These early travels nurtured a fascination of the jewellery that adorned the people of other lands. I was inspired to discover their stories, traditions and the cultural significance attached to these jewels from a world so different from my own. From each country, I collected locally handcrafted jewellery that reflected the people and their legends. One of my most cherished being colourful tribal bracelets, hand beaded by West African artisans.
I now call the beautiful Blue Mountains of Australia home and it is in this idyllic landscape that my workshop/studio is located and the Sonara brand was born. My own back yard, the world around me, the people I’ve met, their cultures and stories, my love of nature, the mountains and the sea, are all woven into my jewellery and inspire me to create. Jewellery made by human hands, has a story to tell, connecting all of our worlds together in a tapestry of human experiences and creativity.
I hope that each piece of Sonara Jewellery will enrich your life with beauty and meaning, feeling the love, skill and pride of the artisan who created it...celebrating, supporting and embracing humankind.
